The Marrakech International Film Festival was founded in 2001 under the vision of Daniel Toscan du Platier under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Under Toscan's direction, the festival helped to put Marrakesh on the map as an international destination for the arts. Each year, top talent descends upon Marrakech to view films in French, Arabic and English, and participate in special events from Master Classes to celebratory dinners. It's the idea time to visit this multi-cultural paradise and fully immerse oneself in the rich culture of the city.
This year, special events include a tribute to French cinema, a conversation with Francis Ford Coppola, Master Classes with Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne, Lee Changdong and tributes to James Caan, Harvey Keitel, Kiyoshi Kurosawa and Mohammed Abderrahman Tazi. In addition to 14 films in competition and special screenings, a series of films will be projected onto the historic Place Jemaa El Fna, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renown the world over for its unparalleled orators.
